Today, I met with an old friend of mine from PLU that I hadn't really spoken with or seen in a long time: Justin Klump.
I met Justin my freshman year in college and always thought he was a real nice guy. We didn't exactly really hang out because it seemed like we were always just on the outskirts of each other's friend circle, if that makes sense, so it was nice of him to agree to grab lunch with me while he was up in Seattle.
I wanted to talk to him about my desire to be a professional musician. Justin is an uber-talented guy that has performed with some pretty big names (Matt Nathanson, Everclear) and has been doing the full-time music thing for three years now. (You gotta check out his site. You won't be sorry, I promise.) Who better to talk to than someone who has been working hard at making it for a couple years, right?
It was a good lunch. We got to catch up, see how each of us was doing, talk about music. I definitely learned some things and also heard pretty much what I was expecting: you have to love doing this to make it because it's hard and long. Well, thankfully, I do.
Now the path begins. I have to find someone who can give me lessons (guitar and voice) and continue to work on writing new stuff. Also, I am planning on searching out some local open mic nights so I can get some performances in and mature in that way. Should be fun!!

Remember the little people who enjoyed your presence pre-fame!
You know I would play backup guitar if you asked! I hope you're doing well, Q.
