Lately, many of the songs I've been writing focus on life, philosophy, and...God. It's a subject that I often shy away from in the songs I write because it seems like a no-win situation as an artist. I may offend "the believers" because I don't share their exact opinions, and I may offend the "non-believers" because they don't want to hear about some deity up in the sky. :)
But I write what I feel, and lately--apparently--I've been thinking a lot about God. And probably not in the way you expect, either. I'm a curious man, and since I was raised in the church, I've always liked to discuss God with those who do believe. I'm also lucky enough to have friends who are extremely respectful of my beliefs...even though we don't necessarily share those same beliefs.
Anyway, I got to writing today, and out of this song came an idea: what if you could interview God? What if God could suddenly set the record straight? And maybe even tell us his or her faults? Regrets? I don't know if it's ridiculous, but I hope that it makes you think...What if you were God? What if God were you?
"And I have not been all you needed/But I am often misunderstood."
