A dashboard confessional

Of course, most of you probably realize how much I love music at this point. I've made it my personal mandate to bring you amazing new-talent music.

Unfortunately, I may erase all credibility that I have built up with this simple confession: I like emotronic.

I didn't even know what emotronic was before today. Well, at least the name for that genre of music.

It all started with my old friend Louis. He introduced me to a band called Hellogoodbye. The song "Here (In Your Arms)" was so catchy and musically addictive that I couldn't stop listening to it for about three weeks. Everyone I made listen to it instantly fell in love.

They basically use a vocoder to electronicize their catchy pop/emo lyrics. Being a musical purist, I used to turn up my nose at those that used vocoders, of course assuming that they simply lacked vocal talent and had to disguise their cacophonous voices with digital trickery.

I was SOOOOO wrong. Hellogoodbye is light-hearted and fun. Sure, they may not be the next Beatles or Beach Boys, but I'm not always looking for a revolution.

But I couldn't find other bands that emulated this emo-synthesized sound. Nobody could recreate the danceable and young sound that made me crack a smile every time I heard it...

Until now.

In my recent quest to discover unsigned musical acts, I've been digging through the top artists at MySpace, and today, I found that one of the drop-down options for musical genre is "emotronic." I figured, "Hey, I like emo. And this sounds like it might be intriguing." I was right. The #1 ranked band, Select Start, is a blast to listen to. Seriously, it makes me want to dance in my seat.

My adoration for their musical charm is only reinforced by their awesome name (clearly, they are gaming geeks; almost all console systems since NES have a "select" and "start" button). Their MySpace quote is also hilarious, but makes me shudder at the same time: "The soundtrack to your 'no boys allowed' sleepover."

Um, so maybe they aren't catering to the 23-year old guy demographic, but that's okay, right?

(Oh, and here's their MySpace page so you can check out some of their other songs.)

To be honest...

I really don't like that genre. :/

But it's more of a personal preference. I never have and I don't think I really ever will. I can certainly understand why some people would though.
