Random songage: #117

Anyone who knows me from back in my days at college knows that when I would do a show, I would usually end the night by singing a song that I'd make up on the spot. It's fun, it gets the crowd into it, and I just so happen to be pretty decent at ad libbing.

It's also how almost all my music is written. I'll sit down with my guitar and just start to play whatever I think sounds good. Yeah, I usually spice it up from the original, but there's just something about that first take that oozes with raw emotion and freedom. Y'see, there's no thinking that goes into it, it's just the outpouring of pure creativity. There is no wrong. There is no right.

This is mainly why I've decided to start keeping a musical audio "blog" of sorts over at my new website. I'll be posting clips of songs that are incomplete (don't have all the words, missing parts, major stoppages and mistakes included) there to get your feedback as to what sounds you like and don't like. Be honest. If you don't like something, tell me by leaving a comment on here. If you do like the way it sounds, it'd be nice to hear from you too. :)

But remember, don't listen too closely to the chords/notes/words because there will be plenty of things that get changed...sometimes the words will not even make any sense. But it's not about that. It's about the feeling the song evokes in you as you listen and sometimes a nonsense lyric still "sounds right" poetically, even if the words don't make sense. So just listen to the sound.

The song above is one I just came up with today while I watched the Huskies upset the #3 Trojans. Does that have anything to do with the song? Nope. :) But it sure was sweet and I had to mention it, haha.

I haven't come up with a name for it yet, and that's where YOU come in. While the words are definitely incomplete (maybe only the chorus will stay as is), I still want name suggestions. Don't even pay attention to the lyrics when thinking of the name...what sounds like the right name for the sound of this song? "Rain"? "A Thought for You"? Anything...you name it, I want to hear it.

Be a part of the process and help me name the song!

"This is me! Are you ready?"
